Dental Clinic Volunteer Opportunities
Our dental clinic has the privilege to serve anywhere from 60 to 80 clients per day, and that total includes both patients who have been scheduled appointments, and those who are emergency or “work-in” patients. As you can imagine, these types of numbers are virtually impossible for our two full-time front desk staff to manage by themselves. At the dental clinic, volunteers help share the work load, and make it possible for our staff to effectively manage patient paperwork, and provide them with the highest level and quality of care.

Volunteer Spotlight: Andrew, Dental Clinic Volunteer
Upon moving to Houston in the 1980’s, Andrew saw first hand the impact that AIDS had on the Houston community. As a friend to many diagnosed HIV patients, Andrew describes the AIDS epidemic as steadily changing with each new generation. “The onset was challenging at best, but overtime with new drugs and support systems, care is improving.” So when Andrew learned of Bering Omega five years ago, he immediately asked how he could help. He initially began volunteering at the Day Treatment Program, but soon moved over to the dental clinic. Andrew’s keen interest in the medical field drew him to the clinic with hopes of gaining new learning experiences. With the dental clinic seeing nearly 60 patients everyday, Andrew can’t help but describe his daily volunteer routine as busy, but rewarding. “The most rewarding thing about volunteering here is it gives me a goal, something that I can work towards accomplishing.” If Andrew had to give one word of advice to someone interested in volunteering at Bering Omega? “Try it, don’t give up right away. You learn something from every experience you have, so you only have something to gain.”
